If you enjoy history (and that's probably one of the reasons you're in Kobarid (Caporetto), then you will enjoy this museum. I would have enjoyed it more if it hadn't been mobbed by school children during our visit, but oh well. My partner travelling with me was not has familiar with the terrible history of this place, and so the... More

This award-winning little gem is a must-see if you find yourself in the Soča River Valley and you have the slightest interest in history. The Soča (Italian: "Isonzo") Front in World War I is little known beyond the Hemingway "Farewell to Arms" connection. The museum explains the battlefields extending over many miles of the river valley and surrounding mountains; you... More

This museum is a dedication to the people fighting in the local battles of WWI and also the surrounding community. It is amazing to feel the connectedness to these people and their hard times. The collection of artifacts goes beyond the usual weapons and uniforms and you get a sense of the writing and how these writing depict the changes... More

We were very impressed by this little museum - well laid out, very informative and also thought provoking. For English visitors it is a thoughtful reminder of sorrows and hardships on the 'other side'. Other interesting WW1 sites in the area are some trenches and the huge Italian church/ossiary Sandy 1949

A very good museum about a terrible war. There is a video in English (or 3 other lanugages) to start you off, and then 3 floors of artifacts and dioramas and explanations that really give you a sense of the WW1 experience on the mountainous front. This museum was a little hard to find because of road works this July,... More

My parents and I were in Slovenia for a family reunion. We took a day to travel over the Volga Pass to see this museum. Kobarid (Capporetto in Italian) has some fame as the town mentioned by Ernest Hemmingway in "A Farwell to Arms" where he was stationed as an ambulance driver, but historically it was involved in 10 battles... We had never even heard of the Soca front in WW I but a million people died there during The Great War. The museum does an amazing job informing viewers about this bloody front in the war and adds more weight to the argument about the futility of most wars. Do not miss this if you are in that Soca...
