Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So beautiful! It doesn’t even cost anything to enter. Nice place to go with well behaved kids that can stay on the paths. It was really cool to see so many endangered and extinct plants there. Some of the plants were dormant because of it being winter. My kids(10 & 6 years old) really enjoyed it too. They also have special times where they do guided tours. The only part that was not my favorite was driving up the very vertical Marin Rd to get to the botanical garden. I highly recommend visiting to enjoy the outdoors and the beauty around us.

This is an entirely different experience than the U of Cal Berkeley Botanical Gardens. This one is devoted to native California plants. Unfortunately we did not have the time or energy to devote to the entire garden, but the parts we did see were very interesting, given that it was December. We'd love to come back in the spring or early summer and see the place at its best. Lots of trails to follow.

One of the nicest escapes in the East Bay is to visit the Botanical Gardens in Tilden Park. April and May are particularly nice when the flowers are blooming and everything is rejuvenating from winter.

Lots of paths wind through the gardens. Just take your time and stroll aimlessly, the more detours you take the better you'll enjoy the gardens.

I had planned to visit the Berkeley Botanical Garden on this trip but they are closed on the first Tuesday of every month. A couple of the signs leading the way to the garden fail to mention this. Although disappointed about my initial plans, I was hopeful to find a spot to photograph and I was thrilled that another botanical park was close by. Walking through the Regional Parks Botanical Garden, it was evident that I was “early” for any full blooming plant life. The flora was starting to “bud”. I suspect that I’ll be visiting this area again wishing the next couple of weeks. It’s a great place for a leisure hike, though I would not suggest that this place is fully ADA accessible. I did manage to get a couple of shots which made this a great find!!!

This is a garden that I visit several times a year to see what's new each season.. The garden is divided into plantings from different climate regions in California. Lots of native plants. A real treat.

This is a partially disabled accessible local park. There are some nice plantings, and a few views. The creek is running in wet years like this one.

I suspect that more visitors go to the UC Berkeley botanical garden than to this garden specializing in the plants of California. This one is a gem. I like strolling the paths to look at all the native plants from different parts of the state. I also enjoy the garden for its diverse birdlife, whether warblers in spring or sparrows in fall and winter. In the winter of 2016-2017, when the Bay Area had a lot of rain, the creek was running strong. You could go here in every season and enjoy the garden, which is beautifully maintained. The garden is part of the East Bay Regional Park District. You can check out the garden page on the EBRPD website. It lists the many native plants by the season when they bloom.

Go early in the morning before the sun gets too high in the sky. The garden opens at 8:30 or so. We went in late March, so there wasn't that much colour. Families with kids start to arrive after 11:00 but that's not a problem.

Both of the Botanical Gardens in Berkeley are excellent, the university one and this Regional Parks one. Very, very crowded and well used. Lots of great trails. Good for the entire family.

This is one of my all time favorite places, and I feel bereft if I don't visit at least once a month. Please take into account that I am a CA Native Plant Nerd (TM) but it's really a magical place.
If you like the old WPA-Style national parks architecture and trails, this is for you. Delightful trails and human shaped streams, waterfalls, bridges and mini escarpments blend into the scenery like they have been there for decades. And they have! Just let the spirit take you, and you'll imagine faeries or hobbits by the creek or under the bridge.
Entering the garden, you can tour habitats from different areas of California. These are nicely arranged so as you walk you travel and immerse yourself in Redwoods, Desert, or Riparian areas. The Garden is in a sort of bowl, so when you are in it, you lose sight of the surrounding road and human influences. My favorite is the sandy delta habitat, not something you see represented or preserved most of the time. A close second are the CA Pipevine blossoms that play host to enormous blue-black butterflies.
The plants are curated with brilliance. You may see Manzanitas, Redwoods, and Alpine plants in their own habitat. Rare and beautiful bulbs are massed together in rustic stone planters to offer a miniaturized version of the fields of color you might see in the wild. The selections are extensive and carefully chosen.
The garden got a new director a few years ago, and the influence is already visible. Each time we visit, there is a new project underway, or an old area restored, and all blend into a harmonious vista due to meticulous planning.
If you like plants, plan to spend a few hours. You can bring a picnic lunch to spread in the meadow, or meander and look at all the small touches that make this place special. Make the circuit, and you'll feel like you've been all over California. Let your kids get their wiggles out while discovering little known blossoms, finding a fish in the creek, or conking out under a tree.
Do say hello to the highly trained staff. They are always sweet and willing to give insight on your own native projects at home. Their plant sales are not to be missed.

Better than the fancy ones in Santa Barbara and So Cal. If you want a nice day out, just enjoy the plants, the clean air and sunshine. If you want to learn more about our unique flora, this is the best possible place to do it all together,
