Living 5 miles from the park is wonderful and having just finished the docent class at the park I can tell you this is a magical place. The oldest state park in the country we have the tallest trees in the world. Great camping and hiking amongst some of the oldest trees in the world!

Visited on a Friday with family. It is about an hour drive from Newark/Fremont area. Took longer since the road we took was under construction and very curvy. Please take note if you are taking Bear Creek Road, it is very curvy and the raod narrows. You have to slow down on the narrow curves since you won't see who;s... More

Went there on a Saturday to check the park. Heading there will be a challenge (or adventure) for those taking bear creek road/236 as it is windy so please be careful on the roads. There are numerous trails to choose from from the easy redwood loop trail to the long skyline to the sea trail. I hiked the skyline to... More

This place is so beautiful! My wife and I drove from Los Angeles 6 hours to see this place of nature, God's finger at work...To see the magnificent trees (even after growing up seeing the Sequoias in the East) really humbles me and I would recommend to everyone to visit unhurried and slow. I would recommend finding the quickest and... More

These trees have inspired poets, conservationists, and now my two teenage grandkids. While the drive into Big Basin State Park was a little rugged with winding roads the sight of the massive redwoods was impressive. They have a shorter, well-groomed path that was fine for my wife and I while the kids ran further ahead to explore deeper into the... More

Okay, it does take a bit of time to get here, and the roads are windy and can be quite narrow, so those prone to car sickness take heed, but you are rewarded for your efforts because the place is beautiful (although let it be know that they are doing ADA construction at the moment and some sections are not... Wonderful location, wonderful forest. Unfortunately, all California state parks are suffering in the recession, but this old place is a treasure. Prepare for cold days & evenings, it's normal. On two different trips there, I've slept inside a hollow redwood tree in my campsite.
