Very rigorous climb both up and (surprisingly) down. You have to climb one peak, then down, then up again, to get to Taktsang ("Tiger's Nest"). So, you must do the same on the way back. My guide made a staff for me, which helped enormously. It's possible to ride horses part-way up, if you think it's necessary. I was so... more

A real Bhutan highlight. The climb is exhausting (especially if you are still getting used to the altitude or are recovering from a long flight etc) but the tea room part of the way up is worth stopping at for the most stunning view and welcome cup of tea. The final push to the top gave a surprise around every... more

Our guide very wisly scheduled this towards the end of our holiday rather than the beginning so that we were acclimatised to the altitude and had done some other climbs before attempting this one. The Monastery is a 900m climb from the car park. Some people take a pony... more

I and my wife visited Tiger's Nest on June 9, 2008. It was on the final lap of a ten day trip to Bhutan. We used ponies to climb. The ponies know the way and require minmum leading from the horse owner. The pony seemed to trot through the edge of the winding path up the hill. It is certainly... more

If you can get to the cafe you can get to the top... it's well worth it because the views are much much better... Inside it's charming. But if you're scared of heights you may not like the stairs. more
