Not a lot to the park itself, I do rec. that you bring your own gold pan and give panning a try.

The Marshall Gold Discovery State Park is a fantastic destination! If you want your kids to learn something while having fun, this is the place to be. Let's make sure we stimulate their intellects instead of letting them zone out in front of a TV.

We drove up during a weekend visit to Sacramento because we wanted to see some of the foothills and we only had an afternoon to go exploring. The drive was great-- you see glorious Sierra Nevada mountains, which were beautifully snow- covered that day. The park was a real treat! We saw a film that taught us all about the... More

It all started in Coloma, about 8 miles from Placerville. Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park has a mill that can be turned on to show how it actually worked. It's located where gold was discovered in the traces of the mill. This is a large park spread through the tiny town of Coloma. There is an excellent museum which... More
