If you want to see a real local market ..this is the one ...people are selling and buying goods ..fresh fish, fruit, crabs, etc ....most of the seafood still alive to assure it is fresh ...a "breathtaking" experience ..

This is a typical Khmer market - dirty and stinky and crowded and dark. Foreigners would feel better at one of the new Super Markets. However, it helps you understand how the locals live, and you can bargain for a good price.

The heart of the market seems to sell the usual brand label clothes, but dearer than Thailand or Vietnam. Nothing inspiring. I found it was great for getting trousers altered, shoes repaired and watch repaired. I got all my broken things fixed there, and there is a good dentist just down the road-called Bayon dentist- where I got my teeth...

The name 'Phsar Leu' translates 'Upper Market', because it is in a sector that includes the Wat Leu (Upper Pagoda) that is really located at the top of the hill, while the market is down... then downtown.
