This was our favorite place to go in the summer with our kids. The mission is a real authenic mission experience where you can see how things may have been like. The buildings have been restored and there is a working farm with animals and out buildings. The place is beautiful and you can walk for miles. Periodically they will... More

It's just a fantastic place to spend a morning or afternoon. It's a fairly large complex with bike/hiking paths and even some farm animals that you can feed carrots or apples to. Free parking is available across the road (there are always cars parked there along side the roadway) - just watch the traffic as it is a busy thoroughfare... More

Beautiful, natural setting. Great trails for long walks/runs or to explore mission life. Lots of history here, and new visitor center with great dioramas.

I had a few hours to kill one afternoon and decided to visit the mission. I got there just in time for the only tour of the day at 1pm. Worth going just for the tour. Otherwise you are on your own with a visitor's guide. The tour guide, Mr. Glasgow was very informative, interesting and entertaining. Highly recommend seeing... More

The La Purisima is a California State historical park not a mission Catholic Church. It is the only mission that I know of that isn't part of the Catholic Church. Also it is not the original LA Purisima mission. The original was destroyed by an earthquake. With all that said this is a great historical park and worth a visit.... More

Pleasantly surprised by the size of this mission and the restoration that occured to bring it into viewing condition. Lots to look at here, along with some farm animals to feed, including some loud and angry turkeys. The visitor center is run by some very helpful people and is informational. This is a must see mission if you're ever in... More

I've been coming to the mission several times a year for over 35 years. Great place to take visitors, ride my mountain bike, wander around, or just to feed the animals. This is a definite jewel of California and worth a visit. Plan on 1 to 2 hours minimum to wander through the visitor center, the building and the grounds.... More

Beautiful - loved the animals and so much care has gone in to all of the buildings. Great places on the grounds to have picnics. This mission doesn't have the beautiful flowers of Santa Barbara and Carmel missions but it is by far bigger than both! We spent two hours walking through it all, stopped to pet the mules and... It's well worth the extra miles it takes to see La Purisma. It's been well restored and feels like the most authentic mission of any on the coast. I'm looking forward to going to one of their special events this year.
