So glad we had the Getty Center on our schedule for our short stay in LA. J Paul Getty’s whish was to give as many as possible the opportunity to experience the world’s art treasures – and that he has for sure fulfilled! This center gives you the opportunity to, for free, take part of invaluable painting, sculpture, photography and... more

The Getty is more than just a museum...it is an experience. To begin with, it is free (parking is $10) so you can take a whole famliy for the cost of parking. You begin by riding the tram from the parking area to the top. Try for the first car so you can see the ascent directly. I went on... more

Incredible architecture, fabulous gardens, stunning views and some of the greatest works of art in the world - what a way to spend an afternoon. The genius of this museum I believe is in the design. The open architecture than draws you from building to building, immersing you in gardens and fountains, architecture and sculpture, classic art and mountain views.... more

This is my absolute favorite museum. The physical layout of the structures, the museum's setting on a hill, overlooking LA and the ocean is amazing. So beautiful, so perfect, it really is like if the School of Athens was created today in Southern California. It's like a the best small park ever in the middle of some beautiful buildings built... more

A modern architectural wonder. The built structures and panoramic views from this amazing museum are a must see even if you don't enter the exhibition halls. We visited on a clear sunny day so the stunning white travertine buildings were almost blinding in the glare (bring sunglasses!). The gardens are interesting and spectacular - a photographer's paradise. Garden cafeteria is... more

Driven by computerized tram, perched on a hilltop are these museum buildings. The archictecture is artwork in itself. Beautifully landscaped gardens among a plethora of sculptures makes it an oasis of tranquility among fantastic pieces of art. If you didn't eat lunch before going, there is a cafe as well as snack vendors to calm your appetite. Scenery of LA... more

This is a great place to visit for a lazy afternoon or evening, whether you’re from out of town or a native Angeleno. Some of my advice: If you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy more of the vistas, come on a weekday – and a clear day. Often depending on the weather or season, you can even see... more

Went there last Thursday on a (I gather) rare rainy LA day. The collection is wonderful and the location is unparalled. There are four or five buildings holding the collection around a central outdoor area. Lots of places to sit and enjoy either the architecture or the views over LA/Westwood/the ocean. We ate at the Cafe...good food at a reasonable... more

Do not miss the Getty! Go for the grounds and fabulous views if nothing else. We spent the entire day there, enjoyed the collections and the free tours & talks. I would enjoy seeing it again (& again!) more

Will keep this short as others have already elaborated on most of the following points. 1. Parking now $10.00. Entrance to museum still free. 2. Museum structures and grounds are beautiful. Bright, spacious, spotlessly clean. Well manicured garden. 3. It's easy to orient yourself at the Getty. It's not very big in terms of ground one has to cover. Pick... more
