The trails are well maintained and following the coast offering breathtaking views. You can start in the village of Mendocino and following the trails for hours, never tiring of the view.
Walking around the Headlands is always an awe-inspiring experience when one visits Mendocino. The rugged coast and power of the ocean is on display in the Headlands. Only a very short walk from town, tourists as well as locals enjoy the dramatic views. There are many opportunities for photos, especially on sunny days in the Fall.
After walking the town we went out to the headlands. Dramatic bluff, with fantastic shapes, tide pools, beaches and not too crowded. We had a delightfully clear day and came back a couple of times during out stay.
Bundle up mate, the easy coastal path snakes its way from hidden beach to rugged cove with the Pacific crashing at its feet. If you're staying in Mendocino and want to see a beautiful coastline, just walk to the end of any street in the downtown, and start wandering. The paths wind over the bluffs and down to the tide pools and beaches. Plenty of wildflowers, birds, dolphins, sea lions, and crashing waves. If you're a history buff, you can find the remnants... You don't have to go far for a great walk along the water. Right at the end of Main Street, and there you are.
Ive seen dolphins, seals, otters, & all kinds of sea birds in the area and the coast is absolutely beautiful. You can't easily get to the beach, but the headlands has great trails along the cliffs. I came across the fire dept doing a rescue drill on the cliffs. Let it be a reminder to be careful where you go.... More
We loved walking the very easy trail from the parking area next to the water that took us in to the town center. Our puppy had a lot of energy so when we walked the trail before tooling around town she was a little less rambunctious.
