Having visited both Monterey’s and San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharves within a period of a few days, I would have to say I much preferred Monterey. We actually had a nice time strolling the wharf here at Monterey. No, its not as big as the one in SF, but then there isnt all the cheesy shop owners either. Saw the reviews written by others. While they are largely factual, I couldn't agree less with the conclusions. This is truly a charming place. It is small, compared to SF, but it can boast of some of the best clam chowder anywhere (That's right, Boston, you have competition!)
