This is one of the strangest places I have ever seen. The creator's message is good but the expression of the message is unusual. I'm not sure how I feel about the place except to say it is strange.

This is a really interesting stop off of the beaten path if you have time. It was free but I think they were taking donations.
The work of Leonard Knight is something amazing. After the first time I couldn't help but take others to experience the determination of one man and his devotion for god. The place was even better when Leonard gave us a tour and spoke to us about his relationship and philosophy about love, life, and god.
If you are in the neighborhood, stop by and see this most odd creation. But definitely not worth a trip more than fifteen minutes out of your way.
It's sort of a hard place to find. But if you stop by a store or gas station in Niland, they will tell you where to find it. The place is a great place to take photos because Salvation Mountain is so colorful. You would be amazed to see what can be done with some straw and paint which is...

We decided to visit Salvation Mountain and Slab City after having our curiosty piqued by a movie filmed in the area. What a unique and interesting place. Leonard the creator of Salvation Mountain is sometimes around greeting visitors. I would suggest visiting later in the day when it's not so hot, take supplies with you.
It's just fascinating to see what a person's passion can create. Campy, kitschy, colorful - words escape me.
If you are in the San Diego area and have a car, take a drive out to Salvation Mountain. The drive is pretty and the Mountain is incredible. I invite you to see my write-up and photos <a href="http://www.squidoo.com/salvation-mountain"target=_blank<here</a> . It is a monument to its creator's religious epiphany. He does not try to convert anyone to any religion except...

I drove out to Salvation Mountain/Slab City on a whim one day when I was visiting Palm Springs. I had never been to Palm Springs or actually explored any of California's desert and was compelled to grab my friend, jump in the car and head out into the unknown. We got a late start and made it to Salvation Mountain...

I would reccommend traveling the distance from Palm Springs to see this. A nice half a day trip around the Salton Sea and about 3 miles from the town of Niland, it was worth the effort. Mr. Leonard Knight , the builder of this mt., if there, will greet you with a rousting 'hello" and a friendly tour. You can...
