I'm old enough to remeber hearing about it in the 40s, when it was Franklin Roosevelts yacht, really a piece of American history, and worth a visit. We took a cruise around the bay, and heard a lot of tales about its history. A good family outing, educational for the whole family.

Very interesting to see how FDR lived and to hear stories about the past. Also a nice look at the bay.

The personal yacht of President Rooselvelt (FDR) can be rented for special occasions. Classic lines, fine wood workmanship a real treat to cruise San Francisco Bay in this vessel of understated luxury. Non of the Vegas glitz of some of the larger cruise ships. Just plain classy.

The story behind this seemingly forgotten piece of history is intriguing. It makes me very thankful for the folks who volunteer their time and money so the rest of us can learn and enjoy. Advance planning is a very good idea for this docent-led tour. The Web site states it is open until 3 p.m. but we saw a family... More

What a wonderful experience to board Franklin Delano Roosevelt's yacht and travel most of the length of San Franciso Bay while learning the past history of the ship. The ship leaves the Oakland harbor and motors under the new bridge between San Francisco and Oakland, around Angel and Alcatraz Islands to the Golden Gate Bridge. The views are spectacular and... Friends and I took the Veteran's Day cruise from Oakland. We cruised to see the aircraft carrier Hornet in Alameda, along the San Francisco waterfront, under the Golden Gate Bridge, passed Alcatraz and Treasure Island and under the eastern span of the Bay Bridge. The Potomac is an amazing piece of history that has been beautifully restored and features a... More
