We took the Arial Tram to the Mt. San Jacinto State Park. A very beautiful expanse of Jeffrey Pines, with walking trails to various viewpoints. But owing to California budget cuts, the trails were so poorly maintained that it was easy to lose sight of where they went. Take a compass or a hiking GPS.

Good experience - although much colder up the mountain than we expected.. be prepared and take appropriate clothing to get most out of trip..It was picturesque, with simple facilities - but lot of steps..

Stop in the visitor's center for information about the walks and hikes ranging for all abilities. Fun gift shop. SpringTime is unbelievable, but you'll see color no matter what time of the year you visit.

With a great Jr. Ranger program and several trails to explore this shouldn't be missed. There are ranger guides hikes and options for hiking with the kids to all day epic hikes. The visitor centre is a great place to start.

We were lucky to be there for the Wildflower Festival, and while there were not many wildflowers to see this year (because of lack of rain) the park and trails were definitley worth the visit. The docents on the trails were very friendly and very knowledgeable. In a relatively short hike you see an amazing diversity of vegatation, and the... More

The SRM/SJM National Monument forms a somewhat amorphous border of federal and tribal land along the west rim on much of the Coachella Valley. There is a vistor's center in Palm Desert, but the Monument can be accessed via a number of hiking trails branching off from Highway 111 and, of course, the famous "Palms-to-Pines-Highway" (Cal State Highway 74) running... Endless trails, flora, fauna, rock formations, oases... take a guided hike or head out on your own. The trails are easy to follow and not overly strenuous at all. Every canyon is a different experience. One canyon contained a couple of old cars that had gone off Highway 74. Another had a dry waterfall and palm oases. Again, bring the... More

This is a must see for hikers, plant enthusiasts and all who love the outdoors. Start at the small visitor's center, get a map, find out about their free guided hikes. If you are there in March you might be able to join a naturalist on a wildflower hike. Check their website for events and special dates. Good year round.
