Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After dining at Kreuzberg Coffee for breakfast we walked down to the corner where this candy shop was. I’m a sucker for old fashioned looking candy and soda shops when we’re traveling.
This one was full and movie and tv nostalgia as well as candy from around the world. I was expecting a penny candy type place, but it was more of an 80s/90s childhood throwback.
The two gentleman working the shop were passionate about the films and candy represented in the shop. They also took time to explain all of the unique sodas they offer. Some include flavors of grass, butter, pickle juice, and bacon. I’m not that adventurous! I opted for one that had an image from Wizard of Oz on it. The flavor was cherry cola and it was great!
We also got some candy and gum we each remembered from our childhood. The store was fairly priced. It was a great little stop along our road-trip!

The moment we learned about Bubblegum Alley (a wall where locals and travelers leave their chewed gum), we ran over to Rocket Fizz to grab some gum! We were taken back at what a variety of candy they had and they even had some of our favorite and hard-to-find treats, like our beloved Flake bar. The employees were quick to greet us and help us find what we were looking for. They were very knowledgeable too!

This place is so nostalgic with all my favorite candy. There's nothing you can't find in this store. But what's really awesome are the people that work there. They stay true to the game, with knowledge of super heros and random facts you wouldn't imagine. The best part of all, we found some cool Five Nights of Freddy's socks for my 7 year old. The guy helping, wish I asked his name, but he worked on Fathers Day and told my son about some FNAF buttons he had. They were mystery ones but my son was so excited. Especially when the guy gave my son one for free! And guess what? My son was super excited ALL day because one of the buttons was a rare one! Only a 1% chance of getting one! You are my sons hero! You guys are the greatest!

There is a variety of candy from days past plus a myriad of unique soda flavors such as chocolate bacon, key lime pie, popcorn, etc.
A little on the pricey side but fun.

You need to take time walk around this store. They have soooo much to choose from that's unique. They have some secret root beer collections you have to ask for that are not on the shelf. The guy with the beard knows his stuff about sodas!

Super cute candy store. They have a pretty good selection of candies including foreign chocolates. I also liked all the taffy flavors available. Since they sell it by bag we were able to squish quite a bit in. Overall, it's worth stopping in on your stroll through SLO to grab some sweet treats.

The visit was quite a treat and the fact you can get a massive bag of assorted candies for $8 was well worth the visit. The staff was friendly and was delighted to find energy drinks under the "duff" brand

On more than one occasion we found ourselves walking around downtown SLO without much purpose besides wasting time before our dinner reservations. On one of these times we found Rocket Fizz and ever since then we have gone there as our pre dinner ritual.
So what is Rocket Fizz? Its name doesn't suggest much and could be anything. Ultimately the store is one giant soda/candy store. And not just any soda/candy store. They have one of the most extensive and unusual collections of soda and candy from around the world. When you first walk in, you'll notice it's eclectic decor that for some it will resonate with and others it is just "wayyyy out there." 2-3 refrigerators are on your right highlighting their soda collection of some unusual flavors and more traditional flavors. Ever had buffalo wing soda? Neither have I but they have it! They have other things like grapefruit soda, all sorts of rootbeer and more.
Their candy collection is one to admire as well. Tons of candy with flavors that you haven't seen before like strawberry whoppers. They also have an extensive collection of action figures and metal lunch boxes for sale as well. One in particular was a sriracha lunch box. Cool! But unfortunately I have no use for it!
Parking is easy... anywhere on the street. They are open fairly late so it lends to a lot of perusing before dinner. If you haven't been, this is your time to go!

We went to Rocket Fizz while in San Luis Obispo. Its part of a chain. The store specializes in novelty candies as well as popular and historic soft drink products.

We have patronized this candy store for a few years now every time we are in town on vacation, often buying assorted taffy, hard to find soda and candy memorabilia. The store, though over priced (many of the exact same non novelty items can be found at the dollar store, but cost 5 dollars here...so please beware!), does have a fine collection of hard to find candy. We unfortunately had a bad experience with a young woman who was working as a greeter at the store on our last visit. My husband walked in by himself as the kids and I went next door to purchase clothing. He waited as he has in the past in the candy store wearing a backpack with our jackets and purses in it. His intention was to wait for us to get done at which time we were to join him and buy some novelties, soda and candy as we always do! Sadly, while he was looking in the store, the greeter abruptly and curtly asked him if she could help him, to which he politely replied "no thank you, Im looking around". My husband picked up a strange vibe in her tone, but still walked around to see what he would purchase when we came out of the clothing store. As my husband was walking OUT of the store to meet us and bring us back inside, the greeter rudely stopped him and awkwardly demanded that he put the backpack down if he wished to look around so that he would not knock anything over! My husband was stunned because he was done looking and was walking to the door far away from any merchandise to see if we were done next door. He was at a loss for words. Needless to say, he later told me what happened and we continued shopping with our kids without returning to buy candy and we decided to no longer shop there ever again. We are saddened by the treatment he endured. He called the store later to gently remind them to be kind to customers. They should not treat folks who they assume to be just browsing so rudely and end up driving off repeat customers who had every intention to buy their goods! He is validly irked by what occurred with this unfortunately short sighted and rude worker and I feel compelled to share. The store is fun and has a great selection, but we cannot in good conscience return to such rude treatment. We know that the store is popular and for good reason, and this review probably means little...but I felt the need to share out of concern as to how people treat others and do not know if this woman was a owner or family member of the owner. We ended up patronizing the great little candy store in the SLO french quarter Powells Sweet Shop-1020 Court Street, in the end, with family friendly staff and who had in many ways better retro and novelty selections and a yummy Gelato bar as well and are now much Happier!!! Powells even has a Wonka section with a mini theater playing!! We found a new sweet fix spot in a classier location in our vacation town!!! Yeah..guess it worked out!
