This mission is right of Highway 101, a few miles north of Paso Robles. The town of San Miguel is tiny do there is not much else here. The cathedral is now open after being closed in past years for repairs. The frescoes on the walls of the cathedral are original, and the art work is some of the best...

This was my third visit to a California mission. The first two were more fully restored and had gorgeous gardens. San Miguel is very easy to reach from highway 101 and well worth the stop. The tour has many artifacts discovered during the restoration.
This is one of the few missions that are not heavily recreated from ruins. While it was structurally damaged in the 2003 San Simeon earthquake and has since been repaired, the interior of the Church itself is almost 100% original. It is one of the only Missions to have the original painted decorations. The age, patina and color palette are...

visited this mission along with three others on a two day trip. The grounds are not well maintained- this is not the most popular mission so money is most likely an issue. The bells in the cemetary area are impressive and are rung daily. Chapel is typical for the California missions. Altar is interesting. Museum is not worth the $2...

San Miguel Mission is one of the best to see to get that Old California feel. It is right off the 101 so very easy to find -- a nice rest stop when heading North, or South.
An amazing place to see. Quiet...we were the only visitors when we stopped by on our way home from Paso Robles. Serene. Lovely inside and out. Well worth a visit.Transports you back in time!
Will definitely make it a stop anytime passing on 101 since it is right off the freeway (although a bit roundabout to return to freeway, depending...

San Miguel has for many years been a place that I've driven through on the way to somwhere else, backwards and forwards -- north and south -- and I've so often said to myself "I should stop here". Finally I did, and I was so rewarded ! When you blow by on 101 at 80 mph +, it looks derelict...

The mission grounds was very large and a lot of restoration in progress. Attended a mass there on a Sunday at 11:00am, mostly locals in attendance as opposed to Mission Santa Barbara. Very impressive wood carved icon of St Miguel as well the the rays of light surrounding the "all seeing eye of God". Got there earlier around 9:00am and...
