My family and I have always came to SANTA BARBARA for YEARS and YEARS just to walk state street. It is so beauitiful and peaceful. Now that I am engaged, my fiance and I love to visit here together. There can be a lot of bums! However, what city does not have bums? The shops are nice. We go mainly... More

We stayed at Hotel Santa Barbara, so we had lots of taverns and eateries to choose from. We enjoyed this time a lot better than last time two years ago because there was a lot less panhandling going on. The last time we felt outnumbered by panhandlers and a little threatened. It's nice having the shops at the Paseo Nuevo... More

We loved the wide variety of shops and other attractions along the street. Window-shopping is a treat, and you can pop into the great little shops, the attractions, and the outdoor cafes. Nice place to spend some time.

Newly weds, nearly deads, and crazies all share State Street. Loads of very good restaurants, hip shops, and college kids from UCSB. This is a must see for anyone visiting Santa Barbara. Admire the Art Deco building facades, lush flowers, and gurgling fountains, rest on one of the many benches, have a cool drink and just "people watch"!

Well worth exploring the shops and restaurants. Had lunch at the Sand Bar while the classic car & hot rod show was happening. Excellent grilled mahi tacos.

But now it's filled with the same stores you will find at any mall anywhere. Really sad how it has lost the beach town groove due to a combination of greedy landlords and a weak city council. Gavin Newsom recently sent many of his San Francisco chronic homeless our way, so there's that element as well.

State Street is a delight to stroll and to stop in at a good variety of boutique stores. Reflects the quality of life in the community.

You won't find any designer boutiques on State St. You will find lots of Mom and Pop stores , fun breweries to sample local wines and beer, and plenty of nightclubs on the lower section filled with college students.
