About
Our estate Margarita Vineyard stands alone as the southernmost vineyard in the Paso Robles region, tucked against the Santa Lucia Mountains just 14 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Here the vines unfold along a rare array of five distinct soil types- ancient sea bed, rocky alluvium, shale, volcanic and granitic. The resulting wines express an unmistakable sense of place with flavors that are native to Margarita Vineyard and its stand alone Santa Margarita Ranch Sub Appellation. Ancient Peaks Winery is owned by three longtime local winegrowing and ranching families- the Filipponis, Rossis, and Wittstroms. Two generations are actively involved in the daily operations of the vineyard and winery. Our downtown Santa Margarita Tasting Room & Cafe offers samplings of our wines as well as wine-friendly cuisine including artisan cheese & meats, sandwiches and burgers, and salads.

My friend and I discovered this winery on a weekend in 2018 to the Paso area to check out wineries. We received a complementary tasting coupon from the hotel and we decided to check it out. Very pleasantly surprised and probably our favorite winery of the trip. I have been back several times and have purchased their Zinfandel and the 2019 Oyster Ridge blend is one of the best wines I have tasted. They also have a small but delightful menu of tasty food items. The next time I'm in the area I will probably stop and get some more wines.

I can’t say enough about Ancient Praks and Santa Margarita Ranch. We are cellar club members there (and many other regional wineries). Great wines at very good price points. Karl is often there when we stop at their bistro for lunch. What a gentleman, a generous and gracious host.

I’m picky, and I highly recommend Ancient Peaks!

Lots of wineries seemed to be up there in cost with bottles $50 and up. This winery isn’t like that. Low key laid back and fun staff.
Just a nice relaxing place off the beaten path ( 1 mile off freeway lol) to enjoy a tasting or bottle. We like Zins and there’s was very good at $22!

We enjoyed our experience at Ancient Peaks; our server was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was fun. Unfortunately, we just didn't care for the wines we tasted.

We went on a lovely tour with Kyle and he shared so much about the area, land, and wine with us. After, we enjoyed a tasting and a charcuterie board. Very delicious. This was definitely the highlight of our visit to this area.

Excellent total experience. We were able to have a trip to the ranch and then back to the tasting room. What can be.said about a ranch of 14,000 acres and a wine production over 1000 acres. Kyle was our hospitality host and the experience should be appreciated. Don't rush this one, savour the experience like a fine wine, and it definitely fine wine

We recently stopped here for lunch and wine tasting on a trip through the Central Coast. Santa Margarita is a very small town, and the restaurant is on the main street. It's a very sweet location, but not a vineyard location. We had a nice lunch with wine flights. Our favorite wine was Renegade, and we bought several bottles. We had hoped to try the Rose but the new vintage had not yet been released. We added ourselves to the mailing list so we will know when Rose is once again available. We chatted with another diner and he said it is his favorite wine, in fact he raved about it. Our server was attentive very helpful. She maybe didn't know quite as much about the wine as she could have, but she generously printed tasting notes for every wine we tried. We'll be back soon for lunch and to try the Rose.

Our server Justin, was absolutely wonderful! She was so knowledgeable and so very friendly!! They are not doing wine tastings. Only a few of their wines are available to taste and only by the glass. Of the entire list we were shown, I think maybe 3 were available by the glass. When I researched their web site, I noted at least 3 red wines I really wanted to taste. Those were only available by the bottle. This was our 12th winery we visited on this trip and everyone else had regular tasting program, just outside. Too bad for Ancient Peaks. We buy wine.
