Recently I took a visiting friend for a drive of my favorite Highway. North from San Francisco over the GG Bridge exit Hwy 1 Stinson Beach. Within 20 minutes it's hard to believe the City isn't far away. Dramatic Scottish Glen type scenery with the added bonus of the Pacific Ocean. Spring time is exceptionally beautiful with all the wild... More

One of the most beautiful coastlines in the world is the Sonoma Coast! On one side you have redwood trees and forests and on the other views of the great pacific ocean. In the midst of all this is Fort Ross the only Russian fort south of Alaska and home to the first and oldest wooden building in the USA... More

Being children of the 80s, and therefore loving the Goonies, my girlfriends and I knew that we had to visit Goat Rock State Beach - one of the Sonoma Coast State Beaches - during our birthday celebration weekend in Sonoma County. Second to the fact that it is the sight of the famous final pirate ship scene in the film,... More

We enjoyed our short but beautful visit to Bodega Bay. Perfect weather permitted us to walk on the beach and take a look around at the rugged seascape, beaches and cliffs. What a view! The highway 1 is a interesting yet fun way to experience Bodega Bay!

This is what a California beach is - a little wild - sometimes cold and walkable.

A drive an hour or two north of San Francisco on Highway 1 will take you to this long, narrow, but spectacular park that highlights some of the best of the California coastline. There are numerous pulloffs from which you can see sandy cliffs (and if you decide to scale them to get down to the beaches, for your own... More

Yes winderful, since the wind blows all the time. The Sonoma Coast is extremely beautiful. Take it from lower Mendocino County to Bodega Bay. It's a slow and varied drive going past many old seaports and logging towns. Definitely worth a trip. We do it a couple of times a year.

Visited here this past weekend with my husband while staying in Guerneville for a few nights. We had driven along Highway One some years ago and saw the coast in passing, but did not spend much time here. When I saw the Sonoma Coast again during this recent trip, I was amazed at how spectacular the Sonoma Coast is. This... More

A short drive from the Armstrong redwoods...what a delightful surprise as we drove around the road to see that vista and then to drive down and see where the Russian river joined the pacific. In my opinion this is not to be missed.
