Fantastic history naval base that has been re-purposed into a beautiful residential community. The views from the island of San Pablo Bay are amazing. Must see.

We had a wonderful 4 hour tour with volunteer George. Ask for George--he is the greatest. He is full of knowledge and very enthusiastic. He is very exacting with his facts about the history of Mare Island. The volunteers we met in the museum are lovely. You will see the museum, the commandant's house, and the magnificent St. Peter's Chapel... More

What a great way 2 spend a couple hours of time. Loved the tour and the people that gave the tour. Had a great time with wife and 7 tear old son. See it before they destroy the island with new homes.

Excellent Mare Island tour. Tour guide talks about history from 1854 - 1996. There are 19th & 20th century houses and industrial buildings, and wartime artifacts. There is a beautiful chapel with Tiffany windows where weddings are still held. A mansion has a beautiful botanical garden for weddings. See the first Naval base on the west coast and the oldest... More
