It's a must see/do attraction in Durango, CO. It's truly the best way to experience the valley below. While the drive on the highway is also spectacular, riding the railroad gets you up close to the awe inspiring, breathtaking scenery. This is a wonderful step back in time. We chose the more expensive tickets & were in the Alamosa parlor car w/ bistro tables & comfortable chairs. The non-alcoholic beverages were free, as were the morning pastries. That car also provides a guide (Elie) who was a retired geologist for the USGS in Alaska (25 years). Her knowledge of the... more
