All of the previous reviews say very well how great the trip is. I've taken the trip twice now and it was even better the second time. It's hard to add anything that hasn't been said before so I'll just say what you can expect. -the gondola seats can be a tight squeeze since they are grouped 3 to a... more

My husband and I took the train up to Durango and the bus back from Silverton. We loved every minute of both legs of the journey. We rode in an open-air car for 12+ and had a great time. The scenery is breathtaking and you never know what it will look like around the next turn. The train climbs into... more

We rode the $79 car with windows, we had been told it had been snowing and hail the day before, otherwise we would have booked the Open Car. Make sure you ride on the Right Side of the Car, since most of the beautiful scenery of the San Juan Forest will be to your right. Our day was gorgeous and... more

This was a true western adventure which romantics such as myself savor. I cannot convey the beauty of the scenery and the perfection of authenticity that is so painstakingly presented for a historic experience. This is a ride you will not soon forget and in my opionion, one that is unparalled by any in the US. The sound of the... more

Wolfshowl pretty much covered all the bases in their review, but I have sometihing to add on the seating in the cars. I rode the train a couple of years ago and sat in the regular coach car. This year I rode the train and there is a new car that you can take that's called the Tall Timber Legend.... more

This really should be the top attraction in Durango. It is a wonderful bit of living history on top of a beautiful journey through the Animas River Valley. I have ridden this train numerous times over the years and have managed to ride it in every car type and all but one of the premium cars (the Silver Vista is... more

My wife and I took this trip in the Alamosa parlor car. The Alamosa is a restored 1880s era parlor car with full bar service & private restrooms for the car occupants. A big bonus is that the car was the last car on the train so we were able to go out back and watch & take pictures from... more

I rode the train from Durango to Silverton and really enjoyed the ride. There is an interesting railroad museum in Durango and the scenery along the route is spectacular. I made the trip in July and found that, even in the summer, the temperature in Silverton was low and very cold. Adding to that, it rained after the train arrived... more

If you go to Durango and don't spend a day taking the railroad to Silverton, you will really miss a treat. We went up and back on the train, but you have the option of coming back in a greyhound-type bus. The trip was simply beautiful. You will not regret taking this trip one bit!! Silverton's a tourist trap, but... more

My husband and I just returned from the annual Photo Tour on the train. You take the train to Silverton, spend the night and return the next day. (There is an option to take the bus one way) Along the way, the train stops several times, passengers get off, the train backs up and does what is called a run-by... more
