Learn about American clock & watchmaking with particular emphasis on Connecticut, once the clock capital of country. Over 1500 timekeepers are on display and many chime & strike on the hour. The museum holds the largest display of American clocks and watches in the world! A special exhibit for 2012 entitled "TV, War & Cinderella" (opens April 14) celebrates some local and national events of the early 1950s and their impact on the clock and watch industry. 2012 marks the 60th anniversary of the museum as a cultural destination in Connecticut. Located in the historic "Federal Hill" district of Bristol, the museum is housed in an 1801 home with an authentic American sundial garden. There are hundreds of kinds and periods of clocks-grandfathers, mantel, bedside, wall, drawing room, industrial; colonial period and "relatively" new...and histories and explanations to go with most of them. They are all ticking like Edgar Allen Poe would like, as you wander around the many rooms of the old house complex where they are lodged. There is a clock for... More

my husband and I went here last winter and found it to be an interesting place. lots and lots of clocks in all shapes and sizes. many made here in conn. would not, however, recommend for young children as they would probably find it lacking in the excitement dept.

I've lived in Bristol for years but never been to this museum. One rainy day I decided to check it out! Admission is very reasonable ($5). When we arrived we were instructed to start at the section that went over the history of clock making. I found this to be very interesting. There were lots of real samples of how... More

Now, I don't even wear a watch (haven't for 15+ years) and yet I was compelled to visit this museum. Why? It's fascinating to study a collection of a single item; to watch its progression over time (no pun intended in this case) and to see how pop culture influenced the functional in classic and tacky ways. 1,500 clocks and... Who knew this was even here? A wonderful museum, far larger than it looks from the street. A clock collection that will amaze you, in a beautiful setting. My kids now love going there to see the "room of clocks" -- try to time it to hear them all chime! There'e even an herb garden, an a giftshop.

This museum is a hidden gem. Bristol was the world center of clockmaking innovation and manufacturing in the 19th century. This small museum documents that history and has more than 1,500 clocks and watches on display, many of them running and chiming. The clocks are actually set to slightly different times so the hour chimes happen for almost ten minutes.... More
