We saw the line forming and immediately turned down a side street to avoid it, heading toward the water, finding a great vantage point and got to see the whole maneuver. Very interesting! A few minutes up, then an old sailing schooner passes, then a few minutes back down. more
Mystic is the divided by the mystic river.One side is in the town of groton;the other is in the town of stonington. Other than the interstate there is no other way to cross the river. You cannot visit Mystic without watching the Bridge being raised...it is amazing to see! We spend one afternoon walking along the shops on Main Street and stumbled across the riverwalk and all of the boats lined up waiting for the Bridge to open...40 minutes after each hour while we were there.
