My husband and I live in DE , and except for a school trip eons ago, had never visited this local gem. Soooo glad we made the trip! We have visited many Civil War sites, and this is definitely at the top of our list now! We went there on Memorial Day, and was not overcrowded. I would definitely suggest... More

An amazing historic treasure easily accessible from Pa, NJ, MD and of course, Delaware. Make sure to check out living history events! We've visited many many times over the years and it just keeps getting better. Bring bug repellant and wear comfortable walking shoes.

We went late in the afternoon on opening day. Loved the park, ferry, and history. Got our money's worth. Great for adults, just OK for children.

Don't miss the munitions/artilary demonstration--it was great. Also, save time to picnic under the trees and take a hike around the island. We watched the Ghost Hunters episode before visiting and it was kinda creepy and fun going through the tunnels. We all had a great time.

An undertold story in the midst of the Civil War. It never fired a shot, but had an enormous role. The State has done a great job fixing it up and staffing it.

A great day trip. You have to take a ferry over to the fort. Very interesting place to visit.

Fort Delaware State Park is situated on Pea Patch Island, a very unglamorous name for an interesting historical sight. The fort itself is interesting to visit from both an architectural and historical perspective. The boat ride (from Delaware) adds to the provenance and mystique.
