I went today with my five and nine year old. You were not allowed to walk into the nest or walk over the troll bridge. They each had yellow plastic DO NOT ENTER tape at the entrances. The May Pole ribbons had been cut so that it was not useable. The mushrooms did not give off steam smoke....the motion detector... more

My husband had an appointment with one of the museum curators to review some materials for a silversmithing project. I went along uncertain what to expect. We both had a wonderful day. He was given access to research materials and able to view items from the archives. We both enjoyed the garden tour however it would have been even nicer... more

We arrived at Winterthur Museum for the Yuletide tour at 10:30 on Tuesday. We were able to get the next tour available, which was at 11:00am. There is parking at the visitor center for handicapped and other parking just a short walk away. A shuttle takes you up to the main house and it runs every 5-10 minutes. The weather... more

It was nice to see an American mansion furnished with predominately American furniture and antiques. It felt more like a home than a museum and wasn't overblown like many of the more heralded American "castles." The setting is gorgeous--I recommend taking the garden tram to the house. The galleries are definitely worth a look. My only objection is that the... more

We came here on October 14th, 2007. We had reservations for Sunday Brunch. We were disappointed at the Brunch. The small area was too cramped. The food was average and the service was poor. We had reservations for the house that we had made from home and we picked up our tickets at the Visitor Center. We then took a... more

We picked the hottest day of the year to visit, but our three kids (ages 8, 5, and 1) still had a blast. We spent the morning exploring Azalea Woods (our kids named it Adventure Wood) and Enchanted Wood (the children's garden). After a break in the cafeteria (expensive but good), we spent the afternoon in the touch-it room. All... more

My husband and I loved Winterthur! Put your body on the garden tram and sit to see the entire garden! You can't get a better American-style museum experience than that! Inside the museum is pretty too, with all sorts of American antiques and historical artifacts. My husband did not want to go, (see pretty things??!!) but he ended up loving... more

Sixty-six acres to walk and ride through amidst the 900 acres of exquisite fields and woodland; a lovely home turned museum full of Am. made furniture and exquisite decorative arts from Asia and Europe 1630-1860 to see: What is there NOT to like about Winterthur? At most times, all 175 spaces can be seen, if one were to spend time... more

Visited mid September 2006 -- Their website didn't state the last house tour time, so we arrived too late to see the house. Instead, we saw the "gardens" (which were merely unimpressive grounds with a few places to sit and take in the "view"). The garden tour pointed out names of some plants and trees -- not interesting at all... more

During a recent vacation to DE we decided we go as a family to Winterthur for a nice day trip. What a mistake! First it was crazy expensive. We were advised that onyl one tour was for children under 8 & we picked that tour. Our tour of the mansion began with the elderly tour guide telling us that my... more
