This is a really nice natural park. We saw birds from barred owls to bald eagles. Lots of turtles too. Being avid hikers though it would of been nice to have more and longer hiking trails. The staff at the lower suwanne hq was excellent.

Watched a pair of Bald Eagles soaring effortlessly above and wading birds below - cannot beat that

There's a 9 mile nature drive that shows you what "real" Florida looks like. A beautiful drive.

The trails at the shell mound site were great, and further north the river trail was scenic, but would skip the loop drive, very poor road and not much wildlife. To be fair, it was January and cold, plus a lot of dead vegetation from earlier freeze

You never know what you'll see here. Deer, gators, raccoons, wild turkey, wood storks, blue herons, egrets and more. The shell mound is spectacular! Close to Cedar Key and free. Boat launch ramp and fishing pier. Take some insect repellant, though.
