The beach is located on a small peninsula at the end of Ft. Island Trail. The restrooms and beach were clean. It isn't very big and the sand is rather muddy. But this is to be expected as you travel north along the western gulf coast of Florida. They have a concession that sells beach items and food and it... More

Not my favorite Florida gulf beach, but it is only a short drive from Gainesville. The water is typical, calm, warm gulf water. Nice sand. Gentle waves. I like that it has nice changing and restroom facilities. Since it is a small beach, it can get crowded in the afternoon on weekends. They have a food vendor so you don't... More

Fort Island Gulf Beach is an off-the-beaten-path 1,000 foot wide sandy beach on the Gulf of Mexico nine miles west of Crystal River, Florida. Mostly a "locals" beach although I've encountered Europeans and other travelers there. Modern restroom/changing facilities and an outdoor shower. Ten covered picnic tables available on a first come first served basis but in my experience folks... More

It is a clean little beach with clean fascilities, but a bold view of Nuclear plant. Not pretty! Not something you wish to view while swimming or sunbathing. May make you worry that you will glow in the dark after a day at the beach.

We love coming to the beach here, it is so beautiful. The birds are a plenty and are so fun to watch. It is quiet and not crowded on any day. They offer covered picnic tables, so bring a lunch and stay awhile. Just becareful of the spiny burs in the sand near the parking lot exit (OUCH). Don't miss... More

If you're looking for a crowded beach with concession stands and bikinis..don't go to this beach! The beach is secluded, easy to reach, very clean and not crowded. There are picnic tables and clean restrooms. The pier is very nice, as well as the boardwalk from the pier to the beach. Very scenic, with white sand. Bring your chair or... More
