In my party of 4, I was the only person to have been to the Edison and Ford Estates before and that was in the mid 1970s. There have been a lot of changes--some improvements and some not. We would have enjoyed more talk about the lab and some of Edison's inventions but the tour guides were geared toward the... more

The Edison-Ford Winter estate is an overpriced exhibition, staffed by less than satisfactory employees that gave little insight into the two American icons. Although the grounds are meticulously preserved, there isn’t much new here: I came away feeling disappointed. This is an old school historical site: there is nothing interactive so everything is look but don’t touch. Guests are given... more

I really enjoyed our tour of the Edison and Ford Estates. We went at about 1:00 on a Sunday afternoon. It was very busy, probably because the weather was nice-mid 70s, and it was high season. It is not inexpensive, about $20 for a ticket, but if you like gardens, history or Ford or Edison, you will enjoy the experience.... more

We’re regular visitors to the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI and maybe it was the comparison that caused us to be disappointed with the Edison-Ford Winter Estates. The audio tour of the site was interesting, but the price was too high for what you get. The banyan tree at the entrance is impressive and worth seeing. A... more

We were totally amazed by this attraction. My 10 year old son was beyond himself and is still talking about it. The guide we had (Adreanna) was very good and full of information. Disregard some of the others whom commented about the guided tours. There is so much information to share that it would take several days to tell you... more

I'd suggest going before 3pm, that way you could possibly see the whole grounds since there are three tours. The lab tour is very short (~15 minutes) the estate tour is an hour and a half, and the gardens... i'm not sure. You can do self guided tours with audio keys pushing in numbers to hear the facts at each... more

I have been here several times. It is the winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. It is amazing all that you will learn about their lives here. It is really nice in the winter because they decorate that houses and streets with lights. more

You can see the second largest Banyan tree and sort of tour the winter homes of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. You can't enter most of the houses. Visitors are only permitted to view a single level from roped off areas. Also, parts of the property are under construction and cannot be viewed. It's interesting to see how advanced Edison's... more

Henry Ford bought some land in Fort Myers to experiment with semi-tropical materials and get away from the Michigan winters. He later talked Thomas Alva Edison, a friend and personal admirer, to move into the house that Ford owned next door. Both are lionized as geniuses and paragons of the American Industrial age (as is typical of such exhibits). Their... more

I will say that my wife and I are glad we went, but WOW the admission fee of $20 per is steep. We decided to take the audio self tour and I think we took the better option. We could then go at our own pace and stop and look when we wanted to. The grounds were in good shape,... more
