If you are in the Gainesville area and have a few hours to spare, visit the Florida Museum of Natural History. I was impressed with the interpretive exhibits on Florida history. Keep a look out for changing exhibits. This is a small museum, but it packs a lot of nice exhibits at different intervals. Great place to take a family and it's free. Giving a small donation is not required, but appreciated.

A very enlightning experience. The butterfly exhibit is beautifully designed, the staff are kind and helpful and the museum's exhibits of Florida flora and fauna are outstanding. The mastodons skeletons were found in Taylor County Florida near Perry. I am proud that these historic creatures were discovered in my home county.

We thought we were going just for the butterfly rainforest but was blown away at the quality of the whole museum.

We took our own grandchildren and the neighbor's grand children-they particularly liked the Butterfly Rain Forest. Staff was friendly and helpful

This free museum has enough to entertain pretty much anyone. Pay extra for temporary exhibits or the butterfly garden/rainforest.
