We arrived in Gainesville around mid-afternoon on Friday and were planning on attending a college football game the next day so decided to take our two kids (ages 9 and 6) to the Florida Museum. It was a really nice experience. We paid extra for the butterfly garden and that was beautiful. There were two employees in the gardens and... more

Gainesville isn't really a tourist destination (it's just a college town really), but this museum is one thing worth stopping at. This museum covers the history of the different regions of Florida and does so in an excellent and interesting manner. This is a destination attraction if you love butterflies. Bring the kids and the cameras. You won't want to leave... more

To me, the Butterfly Rainforest is a destination in itself (but the rest of the Museum of Natural History has permanent and recurring exhibits of interest, too). "Follow the monarch butterflies" as they lead you to this fascinating addition to the museum, and take some time to view the total-wall display of the butterflies of the world, before you enter... more

Although I am a Gainesville resident I have always been impressed by the Natural History Museum. It has a wonderful family atmosphere with activities and exhibits that interest all ages. They have recently added a butterfly garden that is outstanding. Visitors can walk through a small tropical rainforest type area filled with different types of butterflies, ranging from monachs to... more
