I had a fabulous time at the park. Although the day was a bit windy so the swell on the reef was 2 foot, I decided I was a strong-enough swimmer to tackle it on the snorkelling tour. You had to swim 250 yards to the reef from the boat (it moors approx 6 miles offshore in rather shallow water).... more

Pennekamp is an underwater park, it's actually not that large a land mass. If you're looking to spend a day on a white-sand beach, this is NOT for you. If you want to snorkel, I suggest going out on a snorkel boat, or booking through a third party. There's not a lot to see off the beach. Kayak through the... more

I have been to John Pennekamp before with my parents since we live only an hour away. The aquarium was nice, the snorkeling outside of the little "shipwreck" (which happens to just be a replication, understandably) was great and the fish and the sights were memorable. I went with my friends for a few nights recently. Check in was easy,... more

We spent chiristmas and new years in Florida, mostly in Miami, but we thought we should at least go down to the nearest Key. We read a few nice reviews of the Pennekamp park, and thought we´d have a nice time there. At first we did not get in to the park with our car, since it was "full". We... more

The crew, staff, boat, and dive were all amazing! Beautiful location. I didn't feel rushed, the crew was extremely helpful. I hope I can go back soon! more

We scheduled a 3pm snorkel trip to the coral reef out of the state park. The wind was up that day and the seas a bit high but the trip was very good and well worth the money. The boat crew was very knowledgeable and professional, although not particularly friendly. Of note, the snorkel trips out of the state park... more

Hi all! I needed to take a moment to give advice regarding the Sundiver III excursion to the barrier reef for snorkeling. IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE. We took a party of 6 adults (marine biologist included) and the trip was breathtaking. I want to comment on the service and friendliness of the crew onboard also - UNSURPASSABLE) The boat was superclean,... more

We booked a 9:00am snorkel excursion. There is a little bit of waiting around as they process all the participants and get everybody set up with their rental equipment. We were a family of four with a 14 year old girl and 11 year old boy. The 11 year old is a very slim little guy and certainly not the... more

I read about this and thought it would be a good place for my kids (15, 14 & 9) to experience snorkeling for the first time. Being that I have snorkeled before in the Caribbean, this was mediocre. My teenagers thought it was cool but my daughter was very upset and wanted to go. more

We had heard and read a lot about this park, but it was a major diappointment. Parts of the hiking trails were closed, both observation towers were closed, and the aquarium was "under construction" and closed. It may be good for people in hotels to get in the water or take a boat out, but as first time visitors to... more
