Pros: Snorkeling was great (opinion of first timers);Glass bottom boat was nice but too crowded to fully enjoy;man made beaches....just ok; all personnel were exceptionally nice. Very scenic from the ocean side. Cons: camping area......we were in site 8 on the "water"....this turned out to be mangrove swamp water that smelled like methane. Lots of rats and mosquitos (I know..I... more

We took the snorkel tour in the park, with the park guides - it was great! There was rain and they didn't cancel - turns out it is a good thing as it settles down the ocean. We were able to go to the Christ of The Deep site, which is apparently very rare due to weather and currents. Our... more

My boyfriend and I did the snorkel tour here in mid-June. Logistically speaking this was definitely not the best snorkel experience that I have ever had. I had to change into my bathing suit when we got there and since the restrooms were closed down I had to use a make-shift changing tent that they had set up. When we... more

We took the snorkel trip on June 29th at the park as recommended by the other posts. Our trip was just ok. We were a family of 4, 1st time ocean snorkelers with our boys 12 and 14 yrs old. In fairness to the park, it was quite rough and windy that a.m. and they advised strong swimmers only. That... more

Our timing for camping at Pennekamp was not the best, it was way too hot for camping, with the typical thunderstorms in the afternoons. The campsite was awful, there was no shade or vegatation between campsites, the ground was gravel which made it impossible to put the tent stakes in. We drove around and some other campsites appeared to be... more

This was our first time to snorkel so I don't have much to compare it with. We found the crew to be very professional and helpful. They made it very easy for first-timers. The water was wonderful. It was very clear and there were many fish and coral formations. If I get the chance I will definitely make a return... more

***BE AWARE OF WHERE YOU PURCHASE YOUR SNORKEL TOUR*** We learned the hard way. There is a little shop just before you get to the John Pennekamp State Park, that offers snorkel tours. They are advertising as John Pennekamp snorkel tours. This IS NOT the state park tour. So just beware. The crew were very helpful, but the water was... more

Took the snorkeling trip to the reef and it was nice. The boat ride was 40 minutes. Depends on the weather and the number of boats out there, the captain can go to different location on each trip. We didn’t see the statue but we saw nice coral reef and fish. We saw a huge barracuda, a sting ray and... more

We drove down from Fort Lauderdale for a day trip to snorkel. We chose to use the park's tour as it seemed about the same price as others. It cost $3 a person to enter the park from the road, then more than $120 for three to snorkel and use the equipment. It was worth it to me. The boat... more

We rented kayaks here, and paddled through the mangrove trees. It's a great way to experience the nature here. The park is a bargain at $3 a person entry, and the kayaks very reasonable. We also did the glass bottom boat. That was not worth the money in my opinion. A fair number of people got sea sick and it... more
