Positives: party barge deals, beautiful scenery, water sports like skiing, para-sailing, and diving. Negatives: a little of the beaten path, parts of it were rocky....the city had visible erosion equipment that took away from the beauty of the beach.

I was a little surprised by how rocky the beaches are there but the water was beautiful and I loved the sand bars.

Nice beach with clean white sand, beach volleyball and mild waves. Great for families but watch out for topless Europeans. :)

We spent several hours at Smathers Beach for a wedding. The beach area where we were seated was very clean, it had a nice covered table where we could sit and place our belongings. On Thursday afternoon at noon, the area was not crowded at all and no one came near our party as we held our ceremony. The water... More

Smather's Beach was right across the street and steps away from our hotel (Sheraton Suites). It is pretty, with palm trees, boulders and sand. Most of the Key West beaches don't really have sand, since the tides break shells onto the edges of the beach and drag the sand down to the Bahamas. This is a man made beach, and... More

Smather's is cool, but not much for swimming. The water appeared to be really shallow. The sand was nice which seems hard to find on the island. It also had nice palm trees and facilities.

White soft sands abound. Cycled over there with the kids, and vegged there for hours. Local food trucks at the sidewalk offer good choices, even sno-cones. Rent recliner chairs or do some rental water sports. Or just work on the tan. Sea grass in the ocean...bring water shoes for squeemish kids. Great location.

Smathers is the biggest beach on the island but not the nicest (FT Zach is). The beach is maintained but its man made, water quality is questionable so ck for swim advisories.Amenities are there including bathrooms and vendors but so are the homeless.
