I enjoy history, so walking around this historic cemetery was a pleasure. Near the main entrance there is a brochure, marking sites of interest and persons of importance buried there. Seeing the graves of the US Navy sailors killed in Havana in the 1890s was like seeing a section of Arlington National Cemetery in Florida. I also saw the largest... more

We went here after finding a free self guided walking tour map online. They offer tours 2x a week, but you need to call and find out when they're offering them. The local phone number is [--]. The sign said that it was closed at 6PM, but we were there until well after that and the gates were still open.... more

We rode our bikes one morning to the Key West Cemetery. It was really cool. Some of the headstones are awesome. One says, "See, I told you I was sick". more

We visit the Cemetary where ever we go and thought the cemetary in Key West rather unique. Because, we went on Sunday there were no attendants collecting an entrance fee. Many of the stones are sinking into the ground. Many of the tombs are cracked and broken. Many times we felt our feet sort of sinking into the wet grass.... more

It's weird saying that a cemetery is beautiful, but I don't know how else to explain it. We went in the middle of the day, which I don't advise doing. It was way to hot to be hiking around. But the place was amazing. I had seem all kinds of pictures of a stone that read " I Told You... more

We toured the cemetery on a recent visit to Key West. Although the cemetery is certainly very old and the wind and salt air doesn't help, the cemetery is in deplorable shape. Broken stones and statues, some graves had been covered over with asphalt, broken fences around family plots, and the grounds were unkept. It's truly sad that those in... more

The Key West cemetery is a quiet respite away from the bars and t-shirt shops of Duvall St. If you have never seen an above ground burial place then it should have special appeal. It's a nice ten minute walk away from Duvall and even more if you stop to enjoy the neighborhood housing along the way. Try to secure... more

The first time we were in Key West we went on a ghost tour and the cemetary was mentioned. Later that evening we went in search of the cemetary. Of courst it was locked but we shot some pictures through the fence and got some pretty interesting results. We came back to Key West a few months later and headed... more

First, this place is advertised, reviewed and accoladed as some wonderful little verdant oasis and it is so not. We had a hard time finding it but eventually found directions that worked in the Wells hiking and walking tour book. We had to pay $8 per person (my husband, my 6 y.o. daughter and I) even though we pointed out... more

We've done the cemetery many times, but last August '06, a kind gentleman was handing out self guided cemetery tour brochures from the Historic Florida Keys Foundation [---]. The brochure lays out the cemetery and noted historically significant graves. A very nice mellow way to spend a summer evening before sunset. I've included photos I took of my brochure (... more
