There's not much to see here, but it's a nicely displayed monument and a good place to stretch your legs as you drive down the Keys. It marks where the 1935 hurricane came through wiping out the Flagler railroad and forever changing the Keys.

Interesting spot to stop by if you are in the area. Something to stop and see when riding the bikes.

The monument memorializes an amazingly tragic event. The fact that the remains of the unidentified souls are entombed there is fascinating. Just wish it had more expansive displays and information.

Interesting site. Be aware if you are driving since it is little and can be missed while driving.

They have done a nice job with this memorial. Worth stopping for a few minutes to take a picture and read the information.

Watching the traffic go by on Highway 1 next to this monument, try to imagine the Keys of 1935 on a Labor Day holiday weekend. Then imagine the power of 150-mile-an hour winds and the devestation that occurred...lives lost...the famous Flagler railroad demolished beyond rebuilding. Pictures show landscapes that look like Japan after the tsunami...or Joplin, Missouri after the tornado.... More

The key is about four miles long and a quarter mile wide. It isn't hard to see how devastating a hurricane could be to the population, especially in 1935.
