MINWR, located south of Daytona and east of Orlando, provides great opportunities to see some wetlands and wildlife. The visitor’s center (east of Titusville) has some informative exhibits along with a boardwalk that winds it way through the refuge. It’s free. Its top-notch. How often can you say that about something in Florida? You have an opportunity to drive around... more

We recently spent a few hours here at the wildlife refuge. We took the 8 mile, one way, nature drive. We were able to see several different kinds of birds, 2 being Roseate Spoonbills, that were in flight-very pretty birds. We spent a day in the Merritt Island Wildlife refute and it was wonderful. We are from the Pacific Northwest, so our goal was to see an alligator and a manatee. This is an awesome place to view the nesting loggerhead turtles in June/July. You need to make reservations one month in advance due to high demand. It was awesome to sea a 250+lb. turtle migrate out of the surf on the beach beyond the tide to lay approx 100 eggs and then effortlessly turn around and move her huge body... more

Just completed a fantastic 3-day trip to Merritt Island NWR. The popular Black Point Wildlife Drive was great, but even greater were the more isolated areas with fewer people but many birds.
