It's a pier with fisherman, photographers, atmosphere. A lovely walk and some interesting scenery. There's a small cafe, with reasonably priced food and coffee.
I've visited Naples Pier several times and each time something different. On every occasion we've seen dolphins playing undisturbed and free. Fishermen a plenty, and catches frequent. I just love Naples Pier. So much bird life and fish. If it is spoilt, it is by fishermen a plenty, who have no care of the fish, they pluck from the sea, often leaving them on the pier without removing hooks and putting the out of their misery, or throwing the back!! if you visit as the tide is... This pier can get crowded, but it is a great wooden structure where it is fun to watch the waves and to watch dolphins swim and play. The beach is nice around the pier. While the place can be busy, it is also peaceful and worth some minutes of your time if you're in town.
You walk out, you look, you walk back. If you want to, you buy something to eat or drink from the concession. You can buy bait and fish (the only place to fish w/o a permit in Naples.) You can people watch and watch the sunset. Hopefully, you enjoy doing this with hundreds of other people.
I would say a trip to the pier is worth it. Great views and you can get close to the Pelicans. Plenty of people to watch. Gordon drive is nearby drive round and check out the houses they are amazing.
Definitely worth visiting if you haven't been before. Nice mix of "locals" and "visitors". Great view. The "diving pelicans" are not to be missed.
