This is a tiny fort, even for its time, but the ferry ride, the great tour guides. Fort has been nicely restored to its time, but a bit of inagination is needed because the shoreline is so much further toward the ocean now. Park Rangers ferry you to the Fort where the views from the top are spectacular. Lots of history. A short drive south to walk thru the dunes to the beach on both the ocean and inlet sides. Watch the Porpoises in the Inlet! more

This is a fun place to see. The parking and entrance to the fort are free. You take a little boat out to the fort and back again, but you can spend as much time at the fort as you want, as the boats come and go frequently. Only a certain amount of people are allowed at the fort at... more

Really nice to get a ferry ride and a free tour! Kids (4,5 &7) really enjoyed it as was their only boat ride on this vacation. Fort was nice and the kids wnjoyed spotting it from the highway thereafter. We also hikes the paths and had lunch and a game of chess under the hammock area Do it! more

Although Fort Matanzas is free most of the time. If you spring for an extra $5/person you can go on the night tour.
