If you just wanted to poke around and see the park, skip it. The entry fee is reasonable IF you are going to use the park, i.e. picnic, camp, swim, hike, etc. Not worth the drive out there for just sightseeing
These beaches are so beautiful, quiet, and overall just perfect. Great in all ways, and generally superior shelling, too. Even when we stay on the opposite end of the island, we make time to visit here for a few hours to go for a sunset shell walk every few days. It is really beautiful and perfect. When we have come...

We rented bikes and rode down the island, against a stiff breeze. It was probably about 4 miles from center of town. We were hot and sweaty when we got there but there was a lovely shade structure where we parked ourselves before jumping into the sea for a much needed swim. It was quite lovely and very relaxing.
The state park was not relaxing very noisy, there was a helicoper keep buzzing the beach. People on the beach keep looking into out out tent. The beach was dirty and it was smelly.

Gets you away from the crowds in the main part of the island although not many areas are "too" crowded. The beach is beautiful, the fact that you can camp at designated area in the state park is great, we want to move to St. George Island. It's one of our favorite places to visit.

If you have an appropriate vehicle and there aren't too many people already there (limited day passes) you can go down to East End which is the (obviously) east end of the island....

The beaches are beautiful. The facilities were rebuilt several years ago including the campground and everything is very nice. Lovely and peaceful place to visit.
