Common activities on the island are centered around the beach and biking the many trails. For a little variety explore the Village here. Old buildings have been saved and reconstructed on this site. There are recordings in about all of the buildings to tell you the history. A docent will greet you in the main house and introduce you, but... More

We visited this attraction on the way out of Sanibel Island. The people who run it are great narrators and know a lot about the Island and want to tell the story. It is very well maintained. The bathrooms are spotless. Very enjoyable museum to visit. A must see if you want to learn more about the history of the... More

This museum and assemblage of old local buildings is well worth a visit. The docents are very knowledgeable, and the displays and recordings in the individual buildings are very well done. Visitng here enriches one's understanding of Sanibel/Captiva.

Got to experience a slice of what life in Sanibel was like in the early 20tg century. Docents there are very nice and know their stuff. They also have pileated woodpeckers - what a sight!

Peaceful place to go back in time. Loved it as, besides the long introduction, you can then explore at your own pace.

Well worth the time to explore these buildings and see how life was in the early days of the island. I especially like the Bailey Store (If we don't have it, you don't need it) and the quaint Sears Cottage that came to the island in boxes. Wish you could buy one of those today.

I had read about Sanibel before my visit and seeing all of the buildings in the historical setting made things come to life for me. The staff was most gracious in helping explain everything.

Well, we like history, and this collection of "old Sanibel" buildings and the docents take you back to just how isolated this old community was. We really enjoyed this treasure of the island.
