Well this is great for bikers in Sarasota. I wish this city had more great biking that was safe like this trail.
For the most part, this is pretty boring except at some water features and along the last few miles after it crosses the Tamiami trail and you are alongside a canal where there seem to be plenty of dophins. But if you want a flat, safe distance run, by all means this is a good place to go.
The trail is a nice 15 miles one way and ties into a good trail on the Venice canal for a good ride. Because the trail is an old rail bed, the variety of scenery is a bit limited, but the trail is generally quite and away from any traffic.
Take you bikes, bring a lunch or go to one of the many restaurants and take a long beautiful ride to Venice. Be in good shape as it is a long ride, but worth it. You can also take shorter rides and enjoy the view.
Not far from just about everything in the Sarasota area the Legacy Trail is a very nice bike trail. There is parking off of McIntosh Avenue, and the trail is a delightful ride through all sorts of greenery. Visited May 2013
I have got to say I love going outside and kayaking, biking...whatever. So when I read about the Legacy Trail I had to go try it out. It was beautiful! Well maintained, great bench/sitting areas, bathrooms in parks and great sights. The pavement is really smooth and easy to ride on. It is surrounded by lots of giant pine trees... More

Legacy Trail is perfect for everyone -- whether you are looking to get some exercise on a ride, run, or power walk or just want to enjoy a casual stroll or bike ride. Imagine driving for miles with nothing on either side but green jungle. No scenery for most of the trail. Lots of better places to ride around Sarasota. The only thing going for the trail is that you don't have to compete with cars and trucks.
