Stopped for a few hours at North Beach on our way from Tampa to Ft. Myers. The beach were a very beautiful white powder and the park was very clean. Went during spring break timeframe, and it was not very crowded at all. It happened to be extremely windy that day, so we did not have idea beach conditions -... more

My husband and I went for a couple of days to Fort De Soto and we had a wonderful time. The park is in an island connected to the mainland of St. Petersburg and it has really good access. The camping area was nice and the facilities were clean, although a little bit old (and maybe rusty). We rented a... more

Fort DeSoto Park is a beautiful place. There are endless miles of beautiful beaches with picnic tables at the edge of the sand under palm trees or farther back in the grassy area. There are a couple of docks for fishing or taking excursions to nearby islands. There is a place to rent kyaks and to go kyacking in calm... more

My husband and I enjoyed our stop here. Several Piers allow you to get out into the ocean, without getting wet. We were amazed to see several dolphins off the Pier by the fort. They had a great time eating the fisherman's leftovers. We were going to take a dolphin tour, but we were content with this experience as we... more

This place is wonderful and I hope they don't ever start building on it. Good place to observe the birds(we've also seen a turtle nest) and to see a piece of American history. There is an exposition inside the fort with old photos which I am very attracted to. The sand is gray and quite abrasive, just walk carefully. If... more

We returned to Tierra Verde for another week's vacation in a rental condo near the spectacular park. My husband and I enjoyed tanning in our minimal swimwear and swimming in the warm, crystal clear Gulf again. I could literally never get enough of this park! So much to do and see, and it NEVER gets "old"! You must go! You... more

My family of five spent a day at Fort De Soto while vacationing in Orlando- July 2007. It was around a two hour drive and well worth the time spent. We stopped close to the fort and rented chairs and an umbrella. The beaches were very clean and the sand was soft and white. The water is very clear, calm,... more

we loved the campground - but a bit disappointed with the limited swimming options. but for folks who love fishing, biking, hiking, rollerblading, boating, jet skiing, bird watching -- this is your nirvana!! we were in an RV and didn't have a car, so had to ride bikes to the beaches and the fort -- turned out to be quite... more

Fort DeSoto Park was the highlight of our trip. You can pretty much spend a good day there. When we first arrived at the park, we stopped at the visitor's center for information on the park. The staff was very helpful and friendly and gave us a good overview of the different area of the park. We then started out... more
