We went to the Gold Museum before doing the mine tour. They are located in the old courthouse in the main square in Dahlonega. They had several different rooms with displays that were very well done, and they also had a 17 minute movie which was very informative. I thoroughly enjoyed it! more
Well most of the visitors to Dahlonega, know the town was the site of the first American gold rush. This museum explains the when, how and why of what happened in those days of the middle 1800's. The kids really wanted to pan for gold so we took them to the mine not expecting much of anything. It turned out to be a great experience! We went down in the mine which was interesting for the whole family. My husband who does not like to sight see really enjoyed himself too! Only suggestion would be not to... more
