i was in the gallery to see the beaded animals made by african women. not only was i blown away with the showing, but loved the other art in the gallery. the staff that works there is very knowledgeable, and friendly!! i ended up with a great piece of african beaded work, all for a womens cooperative.

Gilman Contemporary represents artists from the US and abroad whose work presents an innovative vision to traditional art forms. This vision is created either through use of material or content. Exhibiting photography, painting and sculpture, Gilman Contemporary will present 10 exhibitions throughout the year. Gallery artists include Isabel Bigelow, Nick Brandt, David Burdeny, Alex Couwenberg, John Dempcy, Charles Kay, Laurie Victor Kay, Robert Glenn Ketchum, Jared Rue and Stephanie Weber.

Anytime I pass by the Gilman Contemporary I am drawn in by their unique and compelling artwork. Some of my favorites include Jared Rue, Charles Kay, and Jane Maxwell. Not only have I enjoyed the exhibits, it is a comfortably relaxed gallery to wander with a staff that is inviting and knowledgeable!

I was blown away by this gallery when there over Christmas. I could have been in a gallery in a major city. The work was high caliber and not the cowboy work I was used to seeing while in western resort towns. Worth a visit without a doubt.
