Stopped into the Green Mill Lounge for a couple of drinks and to catch some jazz. The performers were excellent and the vibe is almost surreal. Old school joint, white table clothes, performers under the lights playing tunes, Loved the place.

My husband and I are big jazz fans and wanted to check this place out. We got there early, about 7:30, got a seat right up front by the stage and had one of the best music experiences ever. We felt like we received a personal concert from the jazz trio - Organic Vibe. The wait staff was very attentive....

I'm not a jazz fan but wanted to visit this club as it was once owned by Al Capone. Its a little outside the centre but you can get there by underground train for just a few dollars. We went on a sunday night which was a 'Slam Poetry' night followed by some traditional jazz and thoroughtly enjoyed it.
We got there at about 10 pm. There was a bit of a line up outside but, I don't think we waited for more than 10 minutes. Drinks were pretty reasonable and the show was great. Standing room only but, the place was exactly what I had hoped.
the number one on my to-do-list every time I visit Chicago! Amazing jazz and atmosphere! Be sure to have cash with you - they only take american express. And if you haven't got your pockets full of dollars go for a pint instead of a cocktail :)
YOu have to get there early for a good table. The only food is the olives in the martinis. Superb chicago jazz the night I visited. Decor is still 1930.
We travelled to Chicago specifically to see Patricia Barber, our favourite jazz pianist/singer, who performs at the Green Mill every Monday when she's not touring. We sat within several meters of the stage and during the intervals between sets we got to meet her, have a brief chat, get a photo taken with her and she signed all the CD...

Expect cutting-edge performance with nothing held back! Enjoyed a great evening out at the Green Mill on a Sunday evening, long the original and special hang-out for would-be poets, actual poets, and anyone in the know in Chicago. Last night began with a special grouping of a tap artist dancing while the poet and musicians performed around and over her...

Classy old-style club with lots of history and great jazz. Our waitress was pleasant and prompt serving drinks. The music was very enjoyable and people were quiet during the performance so we could hear well even though we were seated far from the stage.
Our travel guidebook told us this was an old speak-easy joint once frequented by Al Capone. Knowing that, and stepping through the doors to what must surely have been the original (and well-preserved) art-deco interior, it was like taking a step through a portal to the past. The sweet scent of ancient cigar smoke still permeated the place (in a...
