Shedd Aquarium has a good variety of long-term and traveling exhibits. There are other aquariums that I like better (Monterey Bay for one), but if you like marine life you will like the Shedd.

My husband and I decided last minute that since we were close to the aquarium during our trip to Chicago that we would go check it out, especially since we had a couple of people recommend it. We originally wanted to get the basic admission which would have been pretty inexpensive for two people, but I wanted to see the...

For being in the middle of Chicago this aquarium was a nice treat. I wouldn't suggest buying the extra passes to see the 4-D expereince, or the dolphin show. I have seen 10x better shows
Expensive, but worth the trip. the dolphins and otters are awesome! special events year round
We visited on Sunday, May 27, 2012. There were so many people there that it was almost impossible to move, much less see the exhibits. We left after about three hours...we just couldn't take the crowds anymore. Since we had two little girls (8 and 2 1/2), we had been looking forward to the 4D experience. The theatre was down...

Exhibits are outstanding -- especially the Sea otters, dolphins, penguins and jellyfish!! Show was pretty interesting, but seating very uncomfortable for older people. Take a padded folding seat like you use on bleachers with you...
After taking a while to find parking and parking at a really expensive parking lot, lining up to buy $32 tickets for 30-40 minutes...we finally made it into the aquarium. I've been to many aquariums around the world and I can say the Shedd aquarium is nothing special. There were a lot of people and it was really noisy. Maybe...

Maybe I give it 4 stars if it hadn't have been so crowded; although maybe the place could've been designed to more easily accommodate crowds, I don't know. I've been to aquariums that offered similar and cost less. The dolphin/seal show underwhelmed as well. I did like the actual exhibits quite a bit, and overall that's the most important thing.
If you're here in the summer is try to get tickets for jazzin at the shedd. Great live jazz on the patio where you can have drinks and watch the sunset w/ awesome skyline views. I think it's on Wednesdays. Get there early to get a table and don't plan on eating there because it's pretty expensive for the quality....

We had so much fun seeing all of the animals at the museum. The 4D movie was neat too! The jelly fish and seahorses were interesting, I don't think you would find those in many zoos. We live in St. Louis and our zoo is free, so you know the aquarium had t impress if we were going to pay...
