great museum on chicago history and culture, well presented, and in a lovely park location
I felt the museum was geared more toward children and american history. The amount of information on Chicago history was probably only 1/2 of the exhibits. It didn't help that the place was cram packed full of school kids on the day we visited.
The content of this museum was brilliant and gave a great introduction to the history of this fascinating city. My visit was somewhat spoiled though by large groups of very noisy school kids. The rooms are quite echoey so when you get 200 kids in there at one time, it is really loud. I would recommend going perhaps later in...

We went to the museum and loved the hands on displays. One can be a hot dog, ride and antique bike and step onto an old train platform. The old favorites are also there. The diarama room is old but still interesting. I liked the bookstore, but the cafe is a bit over priced.
I love history. LOVE it!! And I love Chicago. So this museum was custom-made for me. No, it isn't a playground for your four-year-old. Could be we are just not the right target audience. We went through the whole Museum thinking it would get better, or there might be something worth discovering around the corner. Not so. There was not much to interact with and hold the kids attention.
This place is one of the best kept secrets - it is a fabulous museum with many hands-on exhibits that is great for all ages and it is just the right size! Whenever we have guests in from out of town, we take them here and they always love it! It gives a great taste of Chicago History, but in...

This museum is in a lovely, peaceful neighborhood in Lincoln Park. The museum is small but full of wonderful memorabilia about Chicago events such as the Chicago Fire. They have artifacts from the fire that yu can touch and hold. I've lived in the area my whole life and didn't know any artifacts existed. There are dioramas of Chicago, the...

This is an easy to view, pleasant way to get a Chicago history lesson. The museum is set in a beautiful location: South end of Lincoln Park. The building is spacious and attractive. Very nice gift shop, too.
