Even if you're in town for a day or two the Harold Washington Library is worth a quick walk through. Start with walk around the block to enjoy the arches at street level, massive windows leading up the building and finally the bronze work appointed roof. Inside the building you will see some of the architectural styling that has made... More

The ninth floor is the best floor. Plan to spend a lot of time in this gem. This is a library, art musuem, history museum and cultural center all rolled in to one. This is a must see. We spent about an hour here and saw very little but what we did see was amazing. Next time this will be... More

Take a self-guided brochure at the visitor's desk when you walk in, and take some time with this beautiful building. They have tons of free programs, so check out their website, whether you are a Chicago native or a visitor, it's a great place to see and learn. They have everything!

I was REALLY impressed with this facility. They had multiple floors that were laid out logically and the amount of available resources were incredible. For job seekers they have outstanding tools and the staff was extremely helpful.

By far this is the largest public library in the city, and right downtown near many attractions, including Millennium Park. They also host a number of wonderful events, so check their site.

This building was designed by the architectural firm of Hammond, Beeby and Babka, the winners of a design competition held in 1987 to replace the old central library. It is approximately 756,640 square feet, and the largest public library in the United States. The exterior evokes the design of the Rookery, Auditorium and the Monadnock buildings, which are all located... More

Author talks, changing exhibits and of course, stacks and stacks of books make a stop here worthwhile. There's no library quite like it, I never tire of visiting.
