An amazing insight to the home of the sophisticated wealthy of the late Victorian Era. The long commitment to detail, historical accuracy and sheer beauty in bringing this home back to it's present level for our modern-day enjoyment is exceptional.

Beautiful mansion that allows you a peek into the gilded age. Instead of a guided tour, you can wander through the house at your own speed, while there are knowledgable guides available throughout to answer questions. One of the best museum houses I've ever seen- well worth a visit.

Not for kids or people who have trouble with stairs. If you love house tours this one is super (not as impressive as Hearst Castle or Biltmore) but the best local mansion and located downtown very convenient to all hotels

This is a restored Victorian Era mansion in full Gilded Age bloom. Guests really get a sense of what a mansion from this period looked like and what the neighborhood was like in the late nineteeth century. The workmanship and materials are astounding. The staff is proud and knowledgeable about the art, furnishings and history of the occupants. It is... More

The Driehaus Museum, which is really the Samual Nickerson home, is an incredible example of a Gilded Age mansion. Think Hearst Mansion, but on a smaller scale. We visited on a Saturday, but there were no crowds. The staff are friendly and knowlegable. It's not a place for families with small children, as the youngsters may become frustrated in a... More

Walked past this museum-in-a-mansion and based on two antique cars parked outside, couldn't resist a look. It's an 1880s home converted to a showplace for European and American decorative arts and the glass of Tiffany. Every space is more precious and ornate than the last. Three floors of rooms that will have you staring at details from the floor to... More

A beautifully recently restored landmark home nestled just off the shopping district. Spectacular interior materials and design in extremely diverse styles. The extra $5 for the 1 hour tour is so worth it to hear all the details about the home's remarkable history, occupants and artisans. Home contains many of Mr. Dreihaus's personal collections to give the home a fully... More

I am always looking for more non traditional things to do when in Chicago. We stumbled across this listed in one of the "What to do in Chicago" brochures in our hotel room. We were not disappointed. I recommend you find out when the guided tours go off and take one of those. We did not and enjoyed our visit... More

A true preservation project. A step back into the golden age. Mr. Driehaus should be commended for his attention to detail and all the gifts he has provided to the citizens of Chicago. This site is a gem for any history or art/architecture buff. Well worth the time to visit.
