This is a building you want to go into and wander around. Designed by Helmut Jahn, a big egotist, it's all open area, except for the offices around the outside on the upper floors. Of course there are urban legends about workers or visitors plummeting to their deaths on the marble floor below...and I think at least one of those... More

Used to work accross the street and would go there for lunch all the time. Way too crowded and slow. They would sometimes have interesting art shows inside the atrium. The stores are really gems in the city. Youd have to go to the burbs to find them average.

We celebrated Christmas at a party given by the Illinois Industrial Commission in the lobby. There were several food stations, so there was no waiting. There was an orchestra for your enjoyment. It was a fun evening.

If you've visited Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, you should immediately recognize the similarities between the two buildings, both designed by Helmut Jahn. I'm not crazy about the colors used, but I'm not nearly as offended as some are by this building.

I don't know why anyone would want to go there unless it's for lunch and you work nearby. It's a 60s eye sore. If you do have to transact State of IL business, plan on long lines and when you get to the front your window clerk will tell you 'I'm gong on break'. What did you expect, it's government.

This is a state facility that also has shops and a food court that offers almost any type of fast food you could imagine.

Take the elevator up a few floors so you can look down at the lobby floor. There are shops and places to eat. It's worth a few minutes to look inside this building.
