The state of Illinois has created a fascinatingly imaginary concept of life at this, possibly most populous Native American "city." Unfortunately, the site is underfunded. Most of my American friends who visit know nothing of this park. However, my European friends have usually done their homework and are eager to visit what is left of a highly complex culture, the remnants... more

Cahokia is a place of wonder. Who were these people and why did they leave Cahokia? What was life like for these Native Americans? You can find most of your answers at the excellent visitor's center. Also, be sure to walk the ground and let your imagination run free. more

This is a great site. I got a education of the Native Am. culture in my area. I love the size of the area, cultural info. art, and accessablity. I also appreciated the similarity of other Native Am. cultural sites. I was supprised at why the culture had to move on. I have recommended this site to many. Penney more

They now offer classes for all ages which are fun as well as educational. I recommend going into the museum first and watching the short film before viewing... more

There was an adequate museum and gift store on site, not too far from St. Louis, We visited while on our trip to ST Louis. You have to appreciate knowing you are standing where those tribes existed and vision them being there. It would be nice to actually see some native indians craft and dance while there more

I grew up only a few miles from Cahokia Mounds and it's surrounding satellite mounds. As a child Cahokia Mounds was a great place to go to when there was energy to burn...hills to climb and lots of open space to run in. Prior to the site being purchased and saved by the state of Illinois many of the mounds... more
