The downtown area is nice, with lots of interesting buildings, little shops, and good places to eat. We enjoyed walking to all the booths and sampling wines, cheese, bakery items, looking at crafts, and buying fresh produce.

We found ourselves in Iowa on a Saturday, a thousand or so miles from home, wondering what to do for the day. As usual, we checked TripAdvisor to see what others recommend and found the Downtown Farmer's Market. We attended the Des Moines farmers market for the first time on the 3rd weekend of September and we were pleasantly surprised at the size of the market. several blocks filled with food vendors, fresh food, arts and crafts and a few entertainers as well. Fun.
The Des Moines Downtown Farmer's Market features produce and food items grown & made locally. There are also handmade craft items like soap, pottery, etc to purchase. The Des Moines Farmer's Market is a great Saturday morning activity. It is very popular among locals, and visitors to the city. I would recommend trying the strawberry Poffertjes. I absolutely love the farmers market. I look forward to april or may when it starts because I know then I'll be getting good food and produce in a great atmosphere.
my wife and I visit here regularly, the fruits and vegetables are awesome as well as great pies and breads preserves and meats, you must try the pies and breads from the meninites. There are also really great arts and crafts that my wife and I enjoy.
